There is quality, consistency, and kindness in everything they do. They are two very different people who are truly authentic coffee entrepreneurs; one is a master coffee roaster with over four decades of experience, hand-roasting the world’s best coffee, and the other is a female coffee mogul with strategic capabilities and the commanding ease of an admiral.

Saturday I stopped at the San Rafael cafe for a morning jolt on my way back to the City. I took a seat to enjoy the Flat White made with the Espresso Blend. Oh my! Rocking with the oldies, this was the most robust and big-bodied coffee I've had in years. Totally blew away the hipster "Old School Espresso" I had in LA last month and made me realize I'd forgotten what DARK roast can taste like. No charred or burned notes, rather this evoked every chocolate and toffee-like word in my vocabulary ... cacao, cocoa bean nibs, carob, fudge, brulee, caramel, ganache, mocha, cocoa powder, truffle, etc. with a sweet core. So complex, velvety and smooth with no hint of bitterness. And that dense, silky microfoam made this feel like dessert.

I expected a good cup of coffee. What I got was fabulous — full-bodied and rich with a slight caramel flavor and a complex aroma — a cup to satisfy even the most finicky coffee aficionado. And that includes me!

"Talk about finding a gem in the most unlikely of places. This is way better than Starbucks, a true coffee roaster with a groovy coffee shop, and frankly, as far as I am concerned, one of the world’s best cup of coffee."

When I find a coffee that is both very good and has the certifications that show that the workers that pick the coffee beans have better working conditions, I like to let you know about it.
